Commuter Benefit Program

The Commonwealth has agreed, at AFSCME’s request, to provide a Commuter Benefit Program that is available to all Commonwealth employees. You may have received notice that the program has now been implemented. The Commuter Benefit Program provides participating employees with an opportunity to purchase transportation, with pre-tax dollars, up to a maximum of $105.00 per month. This amount will increase to $110.00 per month as of January of 2007.

Transportation costs paid for, under this program, at the maximum of $105.00 per month, would provide a savings of approximately $372.00 per year. There is a $3.25 per month administrative fee for the service. Initial enrollment begins on December 11, 2006. Keep in mind that this transportation benefit is primarily for mass transit (bus, subway, and train), although some vanpool services do qualify. Parking costs, tolls and gasoline costs are not eligible expenses. Contact your HR Department for more details, or call The Transitchek Customer Service line at: 866-823-3248 .
