St. Luke's Employees Join AFSCME
Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) at St. Luke’s Village (The Pavilion and The Manor) voted by a 2:1 margin to join AFSCME on October 11, 2006.
Ninety-five CNAs will be represented in the new bargaining unit at the retirement facility, which is located in Hazleton.
“This was the CNAs’ fifth attempt to organize,” said Organizer Sue McCormick, who said that the workers endured a vicious anti-union campaign by the employer. “I’m thrilled at the vote. It’s finally justice for them.”
The final vote was 50 for AFSCME and 21 for no representation. Of 30 LPNs at St. Luke’s, 14 voted for AFSCME and 16 voted for no representation.
