"Keeping the Dream and Movement Alive"

AFL-CIO Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Observance

January 13-17, 2011 Cincinnati, OH

Council 13 members joined with dozens of volunteers at the Freestore Foodbank from 7:00am until 3:00pm on January 14 - the day set aside for community service.  Volunteers helped bag and stock food donations in a grocery store setting.  Families using the food bank are allotted a certain number of bags of food which is determined by on-site caseworkers based on the number of people in the family.  All donations are used - if items are past the expiration date or the packaging is damaged, the food is donated to a local wolf refuge or hog farm. Shown below are Linda Wise (L) L1224 PHEAA and Annette Sawyers (R) L2527 L&I.

C13 retirees also took part in the day of community service.  Below (L) is Retiree Janie Philips and (R) is Retiree Shirley Yates.
