AFSCME STATE WORKERS VOTE “YES” ON FOUR-YEAR CONTRACT
Harrisburg— By a more than 4:1 margin, state employees represented by Council 13 of AFSCME (the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees) have voted to accept the tentative agreement reached on January 13.
“The sacrifices made by AFSCME members in the last contract helped the Commonwealth balance a $2.5 billion budget deficit in 2003,” said Executive Director David Fillman. “This contract acknowledges those sacrifices with very fair wage increases.”
The agreement provides for bonuses and wage increases of 22.4 percent for the average state employee over the life of the four-year agreement.
Voting took place between January 13 and February 2 for 204 Local Unions representing nearly 45,000 rank-and-file workers and first-level supervisors. The agreement will be effective from July 1, 2007 through June 30, 2011.
