Victory at Pleasant Valley Manor

Licensed practical nurses (LPNs) at Pleasant Valley Manor, Monroe County’s nursing home, voted 20 to 0 to join AFSCME, the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees on November 3rd.

Twenty-eight nurses will join an existing unit, Local 2675, which represents approximately 150 employees at the facility, including CNAs, helpers, maids, porters, laundry workers, and seamstresses.

“Union workers at Pleasant Valley were getting better benefits,” said AFSCME Organizer Tara Van Fleet. “The LPNs now have the same rights and representation as their counterparts.”

In an earlier election, the employees were one vote short of joining the union.
