AFSCME DC89 Director, Mike Fox, expresses his congratulations to graduating SSVC children. "This school continues to mold meaningful contributors to our society, both 100 years ago and this year. This school is a village, with employees, teachers, parents, alumni and the community all coming together to help these children during the most formative years of their lives."

Sen. Anthony Williams said, "It's not just about saving our school. It's about promoting a generation. Our military heroes who sacrificed and died for our country weren't democrats, republicans, white or black -- they were Americans."
"We've got 2 wars going on," said former Superintendent C. Frank Frame. "This school is more important now that it has been for a long, long time."

Whitney Washington, a 10th grader at SSVC, read from a shaking piece of notebook paper about the war sacrifices of her father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Fighting back tears she said, "I am your future. Let your voice be heard."
