Somerset County workers join AFSCME

Workers at the Somerset County Area Agency on Aging voted by a 2:1 margin to
join AFSCME on September 18.

The 46 employees include caseworkers; case managers; dietary, transportation, and clerical workers; and employees of the RSVP (Retired Senior Volunteer Program). They will join an existing local, Local 471, which already represents nearly 150 employees in Somerset County.

"I have to credit these folks," said Sue McCormick, an Organizer with
Council 13 AFSCME. "They didn't feel like they were being heard or being
treated equally. They really wanted this."

The final vote was 29 for AFSCME and 13 for no representation.
