Somerset County Sheriff’s Deputies join AFSCME

Sheriff’s Deputies in Somerset County voted unanimously to join AFSCME on October 13th.

The 14 Deputies are the most recent group in the county to unionize. Earlier this month, 46 employees of the Area Agency on Aging voted by a 2:1 margin to join the union, which also represents workers at 911 and in the court related and residual units in the County. The Deputies will become part of the court related unit of Local 471.

"They needed their safety issues addressed," said Sue McCormick, an Organizer with Council 13 AFSCME. "Now they have the vehicle to have their voices heard."
