West Shore Employees Join AFSCME  

Employees at West Shore School District (west of Harrisburg) voted 92-58 on December 15th to join Council 13 of AFSCME, the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Workers.

The new unit of approximately 230 members includes custodial, maintenance, transportation and food service workers.

"The committee worked very hard," said Council 13 Organizer Brenda Morris. "Their main issues were respect and dignity on the job, as well as the school's sick leave policy."

AFSCME represents clerical, custodial, food service, transportation workers, and teachers’ aides at more than 30 school districts in Pennsylvania.
