AFSCME Hits D.C. for Health Care Rally
C13's bus left the AFSCME Conference Center at 7:30 am. After arriving in D.C. demonstrators marched around the Ritz-Carlton Hotel (1 full block) 8 times before the rally began. The nation's biggest insurance companies, the America's Health Insurance Plans (AHIP) were meeting at the luxury hotel to plan strategies to prevent health care reform. Both AFSCME Intl Pres. McEntee and AFL-CIO Ntl Pres. Richard Trumka spoke at the event and helped present an "arrest warrant" to the "thieves in this building".
