Council 13 Women’s Conference raises $10,000 for Safe Berks

Council 13 sisters (and brothers) reunited in Hershey, PA, to embrace a New Horizon, build their union skills, and benefit a great cause, at the 2022 Women’s Conference on March 4-5, 2022.

Council 13 Women’s Committee Members pose with AFSCME Secretary-Treasurer Elissa McBride, AFL-CIO President Liz Shuler, PA Second Lady Gisele Fetterman, Council 13 Education Department Head Kristie Wolf-Maloney, and Council 13 Executive Director David Henderson at the Council 13 Women’s Conference on March 4, 2022.

Every Council 13 Women’s Conference features a silent auction full of items and gift baskets created and donated by local unions, which raises funds to donate to organizations that protect and uplift women. This year, the Council 13 Women’s Committee chose to benefit Safe Berks, which provides a safe haven and support for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault through education, advocacy, and a relentless commitment to preventing abuse. This year, conference attendees raised $10,000 for the cause!

Conference participants heard powerful remarks from AFSCME International Secretary-Treasurer Elissa McBride, National AFL-CIO President Liz Shuler, Second Lady of Pennsylvania Gisele Fetterman, Candidate for Pennsylvania AFL-CIO Secretary-Treasurer Angela Ferritto, Emerge PA Executive Director Rebecca McNichol, PA State Representative Tina Davis, Safe Berks Campus Response Specialist Victoria Simmons, and Council 13 Executive Director David Henderson.

Members also got to take part in a variety of union- and community-building workshops, including Women In Power – Leading Others, Mindfulness & Personalities, Reducing Stress, Race & The Economy – Common Sense Economics, Community Services for Local Unions, Persuasive Speaking, and AFSCME Fights Back!

With the combination of riveting speakers, insightful workshops, and charitable efforts, Women’s Conference participants left Hershey inspired and ready to enter a New Horizon in their workplaces, communities, and local unions.
