AFSCME joins fight against Spotted Lanternflies in PA

Governor Tom Wolf joined Agriculture Secretary Russell Redding and representatives from the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture (PDA), Penn State University and United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) at a wooded area near the AFSCME Conference Center in Harrisburg, which served as the site of a treatment against the invasive species known as Spotted Lanternflies.

“Although Pennsylvania had the unlucky fate of being the first state in the nation to be visited by the Spotted Lanternfly, we faced that challenge head-on and have made incredible strides in containment and control,” Wolf said.

“This is a team effort and all hands are on deck, committed to protecting Pennsylvania’s agricultural products, preserving our quality of life and keeping commerce flowing here in the commonwealth.”

Penn State University and Extension, PDA and USDA have joined forces to control and contain the spread of Spotted Lanternflies. To learn more about this invasive species and the efforts to control it, click here.
