Negotiations Update – June 30, 2023

As the current agreement between AFSCME Council 13 and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania expires, negotiations continue.

Your Local Union representatives have been voicing the concerns of all the members they represent to ensure that we are working toward an agreement that meets the needs of the large and diverse AFSCME workforce. We cannot and will not back down until we reach a fair contract that respects the vital public services you provide.

Until a new agreement is reached, AFSCME bargaining unit employees will continue to operate under the terms of the current agreement. You will continue to have all the power and protections of union representation.

Your sisters and brothers on the negotiating team spent the entire week of June 26-30 in Harrisburg doing the hard work of collective bargaining with the Commonwealth. A deal has not yet been reached, but progress continues to be made with your best interests guiding every strategic decision.

We encourage you to reach out to your Local Union President or other representative who participated in negotiations for detailed information. District Council Directors are holding regular meetings with all State Local Union Presidents to provide more in-depth updates.

Council 13’s Member Resource Center is here to answer any questions that we possibly can. Just call 1-800-5-AFSCME or email [email protected].

Your sisters and brothers have been unwavering throughout what have been challenging negotiation sessions. They are holding the line. They are showing what it means to be AFSCME Strong. We ask you to continue standing with us as we move forward.

Now more than ever, we need to show our solidarity, so be sure to wear your green AFSCME Council 13 wristband to work every day until we secure a deal, and remember to wear any permitted green apparel to work on Fridays.

Thank you for your time and for being an engaged member of this union. We will continue to keep you updated.
